Independent research and evaluation into the use of Ready to Relate

Ready to Relate Evaluation by the Universities of York and Huddersfield

University of York

Why?

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust have commissioned a team of family wellbeing researchers from the Universities of York and Huddersfield to evaluate the Ready to Relate intervention. The research is also supported by the National Institute for Health Research Yorkshire and Humber Applied Research Collaboration.

The research aims to find out how Ready to Relate is being used by practitioners, what parents think about it, and how Ready to Relate impacts on parent-baby relationships.

What?

So far 15 practitioners and 14 parents have taken part in qualitative interviews about their experiences. Practitioners were recruited from the Specialist Mother and Baby Mental Health Service, the 0-19 Children’s Service, and the Family Action Perinatal Support Service within Bradford. All parents in the study have experienced the Ready to Relate intervention in one of these services.

What next?

The interviews will generate evidence about how Ready to Relate impacts on parent-baby relationships, and how practitioners choose to use it. The research team are in the process of designing a new study to further build the evidence base for Ready to Relate. To find out more about those plans or our current evaluation please email project lead Dr Sarah Blower: sarah.blower@york.ac.uk.

Our findings

Our research is currently ongoing, but we will start to post up the progress we are making as we progress.
